  • Meet Your Teacher

  • Is it any good?

  • On this comprehensive, full-day lesson, Fay will introduce you to several different pottery techniques and give you the chance to make your very own signature range! You’ll be guided through pinch potting, hand-building, surface painting and throwing on a potter’s wheel. Fay will teach you how to create different effects on the clay, and draw inspiration from a beach walk, selecting different natural materials to incorporate into your designs. You’ll make several pieces throughout the day, which you’ll be able to collect at a later date (once they’ve been fired in Fay’s kiln).

  • As a child, Fay was always drawn to ancient ceramics in London museums. When the Brixton riots of the early 80s turned her home city into a smouldering mass of looted shops and street violence, 17 year old Fay decided to escape. She turned up at the airport with no plan, booking onto the first flight she could get onto. It just so happened that her destination was to be Athens, where she decided to look for work. Within her first few days in the Grecian city, Fay stumbled upon a tenth generation potter who offered to employ her to sweep floors and make tea. Before long, he noticed she had a natural aptitude for working with clay and made her his apprentice. Over the last 30 years, Fay has worked with potters all over the world who have all influenced her unique style. Fay loves to pass on her knowledge to beginners, doing everything she can to keep this age old craft alive.
