In this concise masterclass, Martin will reveal (most of) his trade secrets. He’ll talk you through fractional distillation and the true meaning of London Dry while offering you the chance to try some of the production methods he uses. You’ll learn the history of gin and discuss botanicals, learning everything from how they’re selected to how they’re turned into distillates before being added to the final blend. As can only be expected, you’ll also enjoy several tastings as you try your best to detect the complexities that make Pothecary Gin an award winner.
Martin spent 30 years in the wine industry, working in senior roles for Majestic and Hall and Woodhouse before opening his own wine shop in Bournemouth. It was while drinking a substandard G&T in a bar with his friend Lukasz Dwornik that the pair decided to try making their own gin, one with a more distinct flavour. Launched in summer 2016, it hasn’t taken long for Pothecary Gin to make its mark on the spirits world. The gin was awarded a double gold medal at the spirits awards in San Francisco and is currently shining like a star on the back bars of high end local restaurants, including The Chewton Glen Hotel and Rick Stein’s at Sandbanks.
